SWAN Day is a new international holiday that celebrates women artists. It's an annual event taking place on the last Saturday of Women's History Month (March). The first SWAN Day ever took place on March 29, 2008, and was celebrated with over 160 events in 11 countries.
SWAN Day stands for Support Women Artists Now Day, and is the brainchild of the -> Fund for Women Artists and -> WITASWAN.
This day is dedicated to raising public awareness for the issue of equal representation and equal pay for women in the arts.
Performance Lab Berlin presented the festival SWAN Day Berlin 2008. The four-day event - March 27 - March 30, 2008 - was the only festival of its kind in Western Europe.
For SWAN Day Berlin 2008 we received more than 80 applications by women artists from 19 countries who wanted to show their work at the festival, of whom we chose and presented 23 artists -> Archive SWAN Day Berlin 2008
Performance Lab Berlin will contribute to the next internationally held Support Women Artists Now Day by presenting the festival -> SWAN Day Berlin 2009. Once more we invite all women artists to -> apply to present their work at the festival.
