SWAN Day Berlin 2009 is a four-day festival consisting of performances, films, installations, workshops and an Open Space. It will be held from March 26 - March 29, 2009, in the -> Ballhaus Naunynstraße, Berlin-Kreuzberg. Attendance of all events (other than the workshops) is open to the public and to all genders.
Until October 15, 2008, women artists from all disciplines could -> apply to have their work presented at SWAN Day Berlin 2009. Performance Lab Berlin, as the curator of the festival, will make a selection of all the entries received and put together the program of SWAN Day Berlin 2009.
By presenting cutting edge work from women artists of all disciplines, we aim to raise visibility and appreciation for the wide range and the quality of the works being created by women artists worldwide. The selected pieces will be presented in two performances on Friday March 27th and Saturday March 28, 2009.
The films and installations are additional and will be presented on Sunday, March 29, 2009, during the Open Space.The Open Space will also include facilitated discussions on Women in the Arts, seeking to develop practical strategies to move toward equal representation and equal pay for women in the arts.
In addition, two workshops will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2009. These workshops on Financing and PR for Artistic Projects will provide women artists with the practical knowledge they need to make sure their work is seen and paid appropriately.
As guest of honor for SWAN Day Berlin 2009 we have invited the conductor and composer Gloria Isabel Ramos Triano. Ms. -> Ramos Triano has won several awards in conducting competitions and was the first women to ever attain the position of Chief Conductor of a state orchestra in Spain. For the festival she'll present her own composition, "Las Flores del Mal".
